In addition to the island events, we were introduced to the Chief of the Kwalicum Nation, a very small community of only 68 members including children, and the Huu- ay-aht Nation in Banfield on the western shore of Vancouver Island. Michael Ricalma, the Hereditary Chief and Chief Councillor is very interested in working with us and has a long standing relationship with Caroline Hoste who introduced us. He was preparing to perform in a local Burlesque show, and seemed a wise and lovely person. They have also hosted large gatherings at their spectacular campground. We were also introduced to the Huu-ay-aht Nation in Banfield who are THRILLED to work with us and work extensively already with Kaitlyn Minishin, Mark Tankski's fiancee. The Huu-ay-yat Nation is a sister Nation to the Makah and speak the same language. There was considerable interest in the possibility of connecting Nations from both sides of the border, and because we plan to travel by boat and ferry but also by bus with van, kitchen trailer, and truck, there are many opportunities to join or to leave if necessary. It will be only on Lasqueti that there will be no NOTC vehicle support.
